The news on radio and t.v.,keep reporting this awful news about the high ranking officer and the trooper dying together. I do feel sorry for their friends and family. My thought is how can rank affect death? Whether you are an officer or a young soldier, death is the same for both men, and the grief is the same for both families. A light has gone out for both.

I think the village is called Hooton Bassett, where the villagers turn out to honour the funeral cortages, they are so marvellous to do this time and time again. I feel proud of their concern and compassion.

I have no connection with the armed services, just the feeling of sorrow. Why do our young men still have to go to fight? Why didn't the "War to end all wars" end them? Or is it that men must fight and women must weep forever?
