For the Fallen by Laurence Binyon (September1914)
@ 2009-07-21 – 20:54:48
With proud thanksgiving, a mother and her children,
England mourns her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.Solemn the drums thrill. Death august nd royal
Sings sorrow up intoimmortal sheres.
There is music in the midst of desolation
And glory that shines upon our tears. They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted.
They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condem.
As the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them. They mingle not with their laughing comrades again,
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time
They sleep beyond England's foam. But where our desires are and our hopes profound.
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known.
As the stars are known to the Night.AS the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain,
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness.
To the end, to the end, they remain.I found this in a book of best loved poems, I instantly recognise verse 4, but had never seen the actual poem before.
I thought I would put it on this blog site and dedicate it the the "Worlds Oldest Man" who has died, and all the much younger Soldiers whose bodies have been brought back to their families for their Funerals, and too, for the people of Wooton Bassett.

Sign of the times
@ 2009-07-08 – 16:03:18
SIGN IN A STORE WINDOW
'WE WOULD RATHER DO BUSINESS WITH 1000 AL QAEDA TERRORISTS THAN WITH ONE SINGLE BRITISH SOLDIER!'
This sign was prominently displayed in the window of a business in
Glamorgan, South Wales. You are probably outraged at the thought of such an inflammatory statement.
However, we are a society which holds Freedom of Speech as perhaps our greatest liberty.
After all, it is ONLY A SIGN, you may say.
'What kind of business would dare to post such a sign?'
Answer:
A FUNERAL PARLOUR.(WHO SAID UNDERTAKERS HAD NO SENSE OF HUMOUR?)
YOU GOTTA LOVE IT!!!
God Bless The Welsh

The highest ranking and the trooper.
@ 2009-07-07 – 20:55:01
The news on radio and t.v.,keep reporting this awful news about the high ranking officer and the trooper dying together. I do feel sorry for their friends and family. My thought is how can rank affect death? Whether you are an officer or a young soldier, death is the same for both men, and the grief is the same for both families. A light has gone out for both.
I think the village is called Hooton Bassett, where the villagers turn out to honour the funeral cortages, they are so marvellous to do this time and time again. I feel proud of their concern and compassion.
I have no connection with the armed services, just the feeling of sorrow. Why do our young men still have to go to fight? Why didn't the "War to end all wars" end them? Or is it that men must fight and women must weep forever?

Doncaster Armed Forces Day Parade - Video
@ 2009-06-29 – 21:54:01
Here is my bit of video footage of the Doncaster Parade. It features Ben Parkinson who was badly injured whilst serving in Afghanistan. It was Ben's case that was highlighted by the media and revealed the inadequate nature of the forces compensation scheme and has lead to some improvements being made.
Here is a link if you want to read a bit more about Ben Parkinson

The group of four looked wonderful.
Smart.
Gleaming.
Hats and all...Shiny boots.
Hard, straight seams.
Enjoying the weekend in the sea side town.Epitome of Britishness.
They fought for Britain.
They fight for Britain.
They represent Britain.Even Nick Griffin would be proud...wouldn't he?
Could they join the BNP Nick?
They are British...and soldiers to boot!!!
Aaah....may be a problem for you though. They are black...
They fight for you.
They die for you.
They suffer for you.Yet, YOU...fuck them off.
Anyone voting/supporting the BNP...remember the armed forces. They take the bullets, no matter what colour you ignorant bastards.

Today...In My Town 2
@ 2009-06-28 – 00:17:33
Walking past Ann Summers a group of four, fabulously smart soldiers walked past. Polished brass, ironed seams, straight, upright ...one a line of gleaming medals...
He had a walking stick.
He walked with a limp, and I noticed the incredibly shiny boots.
Then I noticed, he must have a prosthetic leg...from the knee downwards.
He was barely 25.

'Don't look behind you now!' whispered my 9 year old daughter.
We were approaching HMV.
'Why?' I whispered back...'There's a SOLDIER!!'
Indeed, there was....
